Nose:
Old-fashioned boiled sweets. Very juicy; alive with apples, pears and plums.
Taste:
Light as a feather. There are malt and citrus, though it is not acidic but sweet. Gentle oak when it warms.
Finish:
Crisp and dry like a Chablis. Very drinkable.
Comment:
This is a very attractive malt. True, it is not the most complex on earth, but as it ages its character is becoming more pronounced. Currently The Tyrconnell is matured in ex-bourbon casks, and second-fill hogsheads (slightly larger cask, with a capacity of about 250 litres). The larger casks give a slightly longer ageing tine, but as this is a whiskey that matures quite quickly, you get a more delicate balance of flavour between the wood and the spirit.
